CityWest Advises Customers of Outages East of Terrace

Jul 15, 2019

TERRACE - Between the hours of 12:01 a.m. – 6 a.m. on July 18, there will be intermittent outages for CityWest customers in the following areas: Thornhill, Usk, Gossen, Copper Mountain, and Kleanza.

These outages should last no more than an hour, and they are due to a relocation of CityWest fibre line under the intersection of Highways 16 and 37, which is changing from a four-way stop into a roundabout. The fibre line under the intersection carries Internet, TV, and phone services to customers in the affected areas.

“We’ll basically need to cut our existing fibre, move it to another underground location, then re-splice it,” said Bart Kuntz, VP of Outside Plant at CityWest. “It’s a pretty big job, so we want to make sure the interruption to our customers’ experience is as short as possible.”

The work will be undertaken by CityWest employees, who have many years of experience performing similar projects around the North. “Our team knows how to get this done, and they’ve seen it all – they’re the ones you want to be underground in the middle of the night in a job like this,” said Kuntz.

Customers who still do not have services after 6 a.m. on July 18 should notify CityWest by calling 1-800-442-8664, or visiting the Terrace office at 2709 Kalum Street (open from 10 am - 4:30 pm).
